Hallam Law
  • Profile

Iain has extensive trial experience, and has argued cases in all levels of court in British Columbia, including the Provincial Court, the Supreme Court, and in the Court of Appeal.  Iain prides himself in an attention to detail, and believes that successful representation of a client, either in presenting a case at trial or in settlement negotiations, depends upon discovering and carefully reviewing relevant documents.

Following articles with a small criminal law firm, Iain started in practice assisting senior counsel in a wide range of complex commercial litigation disputes. Today, Iain has a specialty in Occupiers' Liability; he is counsel for a large supermarket chain.  He also acts for a multi-national insurer, defending injury and other claims, and providing coverage opinions.

Iain has guest lectured at the University of British Columbia on Occupiers' Liability topics.  He has presented papers on practice topics; the law of loss of earning capacity; owner v. driver insurance priorities; and the law of constructive trusts and promises of inheritance.

For fun, Iain enjoys his weekends in Halfmoon Bay, relaxing with his family, and the study of 19th century “fancy” postal cancellations… though Iain’s scholarship Lacelle #1404 is now known to originate from Toronto, and in use in January 1880.
